This course explores the role of government in the regulation of the environment. It helps students develop the tools to estimate the costs and benefits of environmental regulations.
Taking the city of Beirut as a case study, these tools will be used to evaluate a series of current policy questions, including: air pollution, traffic, urban green spaces, electricity, waste and water.
The course also provides an understanding of climate change issues, especially the economics of climate change. It provides the tools to assess the relative merits of various climate change policies that are increasingly being put forward by governments and other stakeholders.
On completion of this course students should be able to describe and articulate some of the key issues relating to climate change and demonstrate a knowledge of what economics can offer to policies aimed at mitigating its effects.
